Project · 2021COMPLETED
English to Irish Sign Language, British Sign Language and American Sign Language Translator
First ever project I did. Built for the TECS competition sponsored by Stripe, Patch and University of Limerick. Met John Collison and Tom McCarthy. This changed my life.
What I wanted to do
Make fingerspelling across Irish, British and American Sign Language easier to explore in a browser.
What I actually built
A browser-based text-to-fingerspelling translator completed for the inaugural TECS competition.
What happened
Won the overall TECS prize in 2021 and became the project that made building technology feel real.
What survived
- A bias toward building before feeling ready.
- Accessibility as a reason to learn technology.
- The confidence to treat ideas as things that can become public artifacts.
